Creepy Critic: ‘Antichrist’ Review

Is it possible to hate the artist but love the art? This was the conversation I recently had with friends over dinner. Of course, Roman Polanski’s recent arrest by Swiss police was mentioned. And then I brought up Lars von Trier’s latest film Antichrist, which elicited controversy at the Cannes Film Festival and beyond.
A leader of the contentious (and oft called pretentious) Dogme 95, producer of hardcore porn (Zentropa) and self proclaimed best director in the world–von Trier is truly a man of extremes. People either hate him or think he’s an absolute genius. He has admitted to suffering from …read more

Daybreakers Joins the Vampire Phenomenon

Ethan Hawke, Willem Defoe, and Sam Neill as vampires…wha-huh?
Ethan Hawke is Edward Dalton, a researcher who also happens to be a vampire–like most of the world after a mysterious plague has transformed everyone into the undead.  With humans outnumbered by vampires, they become bloodsicles for vampires plotting to sustain their existence.  Enter Dalton and friends who uncover a way to rescue the human race.
Daybreakers will be released by Lionsgate in January 2010, which is usually a month where movies go to die.  So far press has pushed this film as a futuristic sci-fi thriller that takes vampires in a new direction.  But …read more

The Vampire’s Assistant Releases in October

For another vampire book-to-film adaptation, Universal Pictures’ The Vampire’s Assistant offerssomething better than Bella and Edward…Salma Hayek as a bearded lady.

Willem Dafoe Giving "Antichrist" His Comeuppance?

If anyone can give the devil his due by kicking him in the rear, and sending him crying back to hell, it has to be Willem Dafoe. He is tapped to play the lead role in Lars Von Trier’s 2009 release, called Antichrist.
Best known for his roles in Platoon, Spiderman films, and Shadow of The Vampire, Dafoe’s trademark has always been that of a fearless actor. In Antichrist, he portrays a husband who has lost his son in a tragedy, and he and his wife (Charlotte Gainsburg) go to a cabin…in the woods…to mourn their loss. Of course, some …read more

"Cirque Du Freak’s" Latest Film Image Features John C. Reilly

I’m willing to bet that if you’re a fan of Twilight, you may have already been a fan of the books, and new movie for Cirque Du Freak, which debuts in February 2009.
Cirque Du Freak the movie reveals a scary vision of a 14 year-old boy who attends a traveling side show and meets a vampire (Mr. Crepsley…pronounced creepsly).
He unavoidably breaks a 200 year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires, and now must leave his normal life as a human behind, and take his place (and his fate) with the rest of the show. One of the …read more
