‘Carriers’ DVD Release

If you missed seeing Paramount’s pandemic thriller Carriers, you’re not alone. The film had a limited theatrical release in the US and is going straight to DVD–set to drop for rental only (huh!?) on December 8. What’s up with films like this and Trick ‘r Treat not getting their just deserts? A film can’t be that bad when Stephen King says it’s “a beautiful thing to look at.” The DVD will be available for sale four to six weeks after its rental street date.

‘Children of the Corn’ on Blu-ray & SyFy Remake

Malachai and his buddies are back on Blu-ray August 25. The disc from Anchor Bay Entertainment contains three new featurettes and lots of other exclusive bonus features.
Stephen King wrote Children of the Corn in 1978 as part of the collected short stories, Night Shift. The film, directed by Fritz Kiersch, was released in 1984 but remains one of the most popular horror movies of all time.

Stephen King’s ‘It’ Remake?

I’ve been having dreams about Pennywise this week. I’m not sure that’s a good sign but it did remind me that a few months ago Warner Brothers was chattering about their remake of Stephen King’s It.
Lin Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment are developing a new version of the story from Stephen King’s original novel. Dave Kajganich (also writing the Pet Sematary remake) is doing the screenplay for a possible 2011 release. First there was the novel, then the TV miniseries, and now in the tradition of the successful Dark Towers series based on Stephen King’s novels, The Stand comes in a graphic novel adaptation.
Marvel Comics has released an exclusive preview of the first six pages of the comic book debut issue of The Stand over at UGO. It is illustrated by Mike Perkins and written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The graphic novel will be divided into 30 issues, with the first one titled, Captain Trips.

More "Children Of The Corn" Casting

The 1984 horror film, Children of The Corn is based on Stephen King’s short story of the same name. A Sci-Fi Channel remake of this film is planned, set to debut in 2009.
The latest news is that the role of Malechai, friend to the strange boy-preacher, Isaac, will be portrayed by Daniel Newman. Newman has just completed some work in the film, Cirque Du Freak, which is also set for a 2009 release.
Horror Writer King Gets No Love For Anti-Army Remarks?

Horror writer Stephen King made some disparaging remarks recently about Army soldiers, (or was it the Army as a profession?), and has since responded back with a defense, apparently after a blogger called him on his level of patriotism.
