Video Vault: Lovecraftian Horror

Since The Last Lovecraft: The Relic of Cthulhu just made its Slamdance Festival debut, I thought it would be proper to dedicate this Video Vault to a few noteworthy Lovecraftian horror flicks.
Caltiki – The Immortal Monster, 1959
One of the earliest Lovecraftian horror efforts, directed by Riccardo Freda, with a then unknown Mario Bava (credited as John Foam) doing cinematography. Freda claimed that Bava did most of the directing uncredited. In Caltiki, archaeologists encounter a blob-like monster while exploring Mayan ruins. Actor Boris Karloff made Frankenstein famous in his portrayal of the iconic monster, starting in the 1930’s. November 23 marks Karloff’s 122nd birthday and in honor of his contribution to horror, Pierre at Frankensteinia has organized a Boris blogathon. Frightening Horror Anthologies For Discriminating Readers

Here are some creepy books for the discriminating horror reading fans! Enter Tales of Terror, stories selected and edited with an introduction by Boris Karloff.
This paperback book presents classic strange tales and ghosts stories with an essay by the late horror master himself, Boris Karloff. Some of the stories are from H.P. Lovecraft and Bram Stoker. Who knew that Karloff was not just an actor, but an anthologist.
