Supernatural’s "No Rest For The Wicked" Review

by Alexandra on May 16th, 2008

television-blue A whole year passes and we’re at the season finale episode, and you think you know the exact moment Dean Winchester is going to die. Does he die? The episode opened with Dean having a dream of being chased by hellhounds.

I was wondering if this was a foretelling of future events. It seems that Dean’s year is definitely up. Read more of my review and a few spoilers after the jump!

Dean has started having hallucinations, and is able to see demons. This would have been a nifty trick earlier in the season.  The boys determine that Lilith has Dean’s contract. The pressure is on, as Bobby, Sam and Dean try to get a fix to save Dean.

Sam recites Latin which is always fun! He’s reminded by Ruby that he still has some power, enough to stop Lilith on his own. Ruby and Dean trade a few caustic barbs, which turn into fisticuffs (ok…kickticuffs). Turns out it was a ploy to get the demon-killing knife. Dean points out to Sam that the demons are using their brotherly love for each other against them. This was another sweet moment that was blasted by a comical or snarky remark, but that’s the beauty of their relationship, isn’t it?

Turns out Lilith, the new demon in charge is playing house in the suburbs by possessing the body of a ten year old girl, and it’s not a pretty sight. These scenes reminded me of a classic Twilight Zone episode. Bobby is determined to help Dean and Sam, and his loyalty seems to know no bounds. Sam and Dean’s Bon Jovi scene was touching.

Overall, it was a bittersweet episode. Because things have been building up for Dean to die, the ending is no surprise, but at the same time, you never know how it’s going to happen, or that maybe Dean was smarter than he’d ever been in his life.
