Screamstress: Following Stuart Townsend’s Night Stalker
If you’ve been checking out episodes of Kolchak: The Night Stalker on Chiller, Sci-Fi is giving us a treat to the remade series today via a nice Friday marathon. Night Stalker stars horror hotties Stuart Townsend and Gabrielle Union.
This show was great when it debuted in 2005, although it was ended after six episodes due to low ratings. Later Sci-Fi came along and picked up the series, and began airing all ten episodes in 2006.
Solve a Mystery…Solve a Murder
The series follows Carl Kolchak, an investigative reporter whose wife was murdered. Kolchak devotes his time to investigating cases that are of a supernatural nature, as many seem to be related to his wife’s death somehow. Kolchak is assisted by two other crime reporters, Perri Reed and Jain McManus.
Kolchak “Comparisons”
Many fans were so excited about this series created by Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files, Millennium) because it brought back something wonderful. Darrin McGavin was awesome in the original series in the 1970s. Stuart Townsend brought a different type of Carl Kolchak to the forefront.
In my opinion, all of the original “premise” stayed the same, such as the mystery, the monsters, and the unusual cases. Add to this, Carl and his partner Perri’s relationship, and an enlightening performance by Eric Jungmann, who portrayed Jain McManus, fellow co-worker to Perri and Carl.
If you’re making a list of DVDs for shows you love that have been canceled (such as The Dresden Files…another one to see), then Night Stalker should be added to the list.
Are you a fan of this show, and did you ever see the original with Darrin McGavin?
