Moonlight: Down But Not Out?
Despite Sci-Fi Channel’s recent and apparent rebuff to fan requests to pick
up the series, Moonlight, fans are not giving up. Rallies have taken place, and there’s even one scheduled for June 14 in Oregon, according to Kandyegirl’s Alex O’Loughlin Fan blog.
I guess it’s kind of hard to give up on such an amazing show, especially when another network, TNT, has now shown some interest in the show (according to Moonlight-United.com). Although CBS has gotten a lot of flack from the fans so far, the strategy seems to be to concentrate on bringing back the show on some network. CW was early in its rebuff (as it’s owned by CBS).
Whether you call it a crime drama, or a vampire romance, you can’t deny the appeal. In the series finale episode, when Beth tells Mick that they can’t work, it seems at first that Mick gives up. It’s revealed that even he can’t give up on a chance at love.
So whether you experience pangs of Moonlight withdrawal on Friday nights at 9:00 PM, or you just think of Mick on the beach shirtless when that Duffy song (Mercy) comes on, you have to know you’ve been bitten. It’s the cruel nature of fate that we all want to be in love, and if we can’t have it, then like mice on a tiny wheel, we have to see it played out, over and over again until we are sick and blissfully in love in some form or another.

Thank you so much for a thoughtful article. You use and interesting analogy by comparing Moonlight fans to people who “want to be in love.” I’m sure that is true in oh so many cases. However, as a single fan of Moonlight, I have to point out that most of the other fans I know are actually married and very much in love. Clearly, Moonlight’s appeal goes beyond the need for self-fulfillment. But I think you are right on it in that you suggest Moonlight touches people deeply, because clearly, it does.

Thank you…for your article. Moonlight deserves a second season. The characters, storyline, crew etc. are amazing. I can’t wait to see our Moonlight on TNT ” hopefully”.

Thank you for your nice article but I do not believe that SciFi is out of the mix, nothing official has come out. Let’s work together to see this show back on a network that will appreciate what they have whether it is TNT, SciFi, etc!! This show deserves a second season!!

Thanks for the nice article. I believe SciFi is still very much in the picture to pick up Moonlight as well as a huge fan request to have DirecTV be a corporate sponsor. Having attended the Dallas rally and blood drive yesterday, I can attest to the passion of fans of Moonlight. When you are willing to give blood even though the only time you ever thought you could get up the nerve to do it would be when a family member needed it, you really CARE. This fan base is saving lives through donating blood to the Red Cross with their passion for the show. I am proud to be a part of this group and this effort.

Great article! Yes, Moonlight is about love. I was at the San Francisco Bay Area Rally in Berkeley yesterday. We are all so passionate about Moonlight and we will continue to fight to get the show a new home.

Thanks for feeling our pain. We do indeed miss our Moonlight and are a very, VERY determined tribe. I was at the Griffith Park rally in LA and we are going to continue the aggressive pursuit for a second season! I have given blood, signed up to donate marrow, and opened my purse to this show. I will be doing the same thing for the fortunate network and it’s advertisers who signs this jewel!
