Fans of Hellboy are gearing up for next week’s July 11 release of Hellboy II: The Golden Army. This is the final trailer release, and no doubt we’re pleased to see it!
Here’s a short guide to some of the important aspects of Hellboy, a bit of history, along with a bit of trivia if you are new to this dark story (no spoilers per se).
This latest installment features our favorite red hero protecting the world from creatures, who would do away with all humans.
This sequel has some bigger and better baddies, better weapons, and higher stakes in the scheme of things when it comes to Hellboy and his unusual team (which include an aquatic empath among others) as they try to save each other and the world.
With the direction of Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) and the amazing score from Danny Elfman, the film is expected to be a major hit.

- The films are based on a comic written by Mike Mignola published by Dark Horse Comics.
- The first film grossed 23.1 million in its opening weekend in April of 2004.
- The character Hellboy originally came to our world through a dimensional portal as a child in 1944. The portal was built by German Nazis.
- Hellboy’s right hand is apparently made of stone, and he loves kittens.
