Harm’s "Impaler" Paperback Brings Vampire Horror to NYC
Vampire Horror in NYC
With the month of October comes William Harm’s story of Impaler, courtesy of publisher Top Cow Productions.
Impaler, the new trade paperback, features a derelict cargo ship that floats into New York city’s harbor during a horrible snow storm.
New York police officers search for the missing crew, but what they find is something horrible….a vampire plague spreads across the borough, creating many vampires. The city’s hope is the real 500 year-old Vlad Tepes.
The artwork is a cover by John Paul Leon, with other noted artists to include, Nick Marinkovich (Nightwolf), and Nick Postic (Underworld).
Sounds like an interesting turn of events…Vlad is the vampire hunter here! In December, a new ongoing series for Impaler will be unleashed by Top Cow, and it will add new layers to the story as well.
Seeing a new twist on an old story is refreshing. What’s different about this story is that the vampires are very savage, and do not have the same weaknesses as the old vamps…they drink blood and sunlight kills them, but crosses, and holy water are useless. Another interesting note is they have the ability to shift into a shadow form.
Finally, Vlad seems to have been in a bit of a quandry over the last 500 years. Perhaps he likes the world and its humans, as it is.
