Green Directing Horror Adaptation "Freaks of The Heartland"

by Alexandra on October 24th, 2008

Freaks Of The Heartland by Steve Niles and Greg Ruth Director David Gordon Green was chosen by Overture Films to direct Freaks of The Heartland, a horror thriller film, adapted from a 2005 Dark Horse graphic novel written by Steve Niles (30 Days of Night).

The graphic novel of Freaks of The Heartland tells a story of the horror of everyday life.

The main character, a boy named Trevor, has an authoritarian father, a weak mother, and a little six-year old brother named Will, who is forced to live in the barn because of his deformed physical appearance. There are secrets about Will that later lead the tale to redemption and possibly revenge.

Interestingly, some fans of the novel were not happy with the way it ended, however, the infusion of a film may give this story some new life, and a better portrayal of the ending.

Green, who also directed Pineapple Express and Snow Angels, is known for helming coming-of-age tales, set in small rural towns.
