Ghost Hunters "Widow’s Watch" Recap
Like many of you, I’m a huge fan of Ghost Hunters. For years (since 2004), I’ve watched the show, and always enjoy the team relationship I see between Jason, Grant, and the rest of the crew.
Last night’s episode (Wednesday, June 4, 2008) was in my opinion, the most important episode of this season. The reason is that it answered a very important question that has always been nagging at me. How often are the ghost hunter’s team just plain fooled by money-hungry business owners? Can they be fooled?
Colonial House - Widow’s Watch Investigation
In the first segment of the show, Jason, Grant and Steve (whom I affectionately refer to as “the guys”) visited a colonial house. I was glad to see they have a new intern, as well. Jason did a great job of explaining what the concept of a widow’s watch.
The highlight of this episode was the scene in which Jason and Grant both felt cold spots, and then switched chairs, just to make sure they felt it. Not only that, they had another crew member sit in the exact chair to see if they felt the same thing. Overall, I felt very satisfied with this segment. The guys had some experiences that could not be explained. Although there are phenomena that can debunked, I suspect its pretty hard to fake or debunk a cold spot.
Beach Distillery Investigation
The second segment was was an investigation of the beach distillery. The owner basically met with guys, and reported that guests has heard laughing in the lady’s room, saw chandeliers moving by themselves and heard voices in the hallways. Once the investigation started, things began to get weird.
Jason and Grant found a sensor and a speaker in the ladies restroom. They found some sort of pneumatic device connected to timers in the ceiling that control the chandeliers, as well as speakers in the walls of the hallways. There was also a mirror in the lady’s room with a hole in the wall behind it. Behind the mirror was a mask with a small lamp behind it, so that it’d appear there was a face looking back at you if you looked into the mirror.
What’s With The Trickery?
After seeing all this trickery, the guys still did a complete investigation. Jason was not happy and you could tell. After the investigation, Jason and Grant met with the owner, told him there was no proof the place was haunted, and asked him why he didn’t tell them about the “trick devices” that were installed. The owner, who seemed to be laughing way too much in this segment, said he forgot to mention it.
Grant seemed laid back about it, but Jason was not happy. In the end, they
both agreed that they’d rather help people who were really in trouble. The owner of the distillery seems to think it’s great to have those fun house type of fake effects, and that visitors will love it.
I didn’t think it was cool at all. So, now we see that our beloved ghost hunters are way too smart for average trickery. Catch new episodes of Ghost Hunters on Wednesday nights at 9:00 PM ET on Sci-Fi.
