Frightening Horror Anthologies For Discriminating Readers

by Alexandra on July 13th, 2008

Here are some creepy books for the discriminating horror reading fans! Enter Tales of Terror, stories selected and edited with an introduction by Boris Karloff.

This paperback book presents classic strange tales and ghosts stories with an essay by the late horror master himself, Boris Karloff. Some of the stories are from H.P. Lovecraft and Bram Stoker. Who knew that Karloff was not just an actor, but an anthologist.

If you prefer to leave those one story wonders behind, but are just not sure what to read in the way of horror, then the Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror 2007 may be the ticket.

51fdVOIUxwL._SL500_SS100_ The anthology offers recaps and trends for the horror and fantasy book genres for the year in the front of the book, and short stories later in the book. The volume for 2007 was in my opinion, the best I’ve seen thus far.

The authors and editors (Kelly Link, Gavin Grant and Ellen Datlow) are respected in their own right in the industry, so you may find their comments particularly interesting (and amusing). If you have a choice between buying one book, and this anthology, I’d suggest buying this, devouring it, and using it as a guide to get to the rest of the best horror.
