Early Reviews: The Omen 2006
The Screamstress dug up some early reviews of The Omen remake for your horror pleasure. The reviews–as often happen with horror movies–are wide in scope, ranging from ‘good, solid remake’ to ‘piece of trash.’ One review starts out, “Stylish and suspenseful…” while another begins with, “Saw THE OMEN last night. I think I threw up in my mouth. My GAWD it was freaking awful.”
Well…remakes never have garnered much respect in the horror world…because they usually suck. You can read early reviews here, here, here, and here.

As a long-time fan of classic horror films, movies like The Omen and Rosemary’s Baby rank supreme; due in large part to the underlying premise of supreme evil masquerading under the guise of normalcy. Whereas the original Omen was truly horrifying and suspenseful, I found myself falling asleep several times during The Omen 2006. Watching this movie once was like being forced to sit through two bad movies back-to-back.
First of all, the casting was horrible. Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles??? Come on! Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick played the role of Damien, and apparently without any prior knowledge of who the devil is supposed to be. This movie has no pre-historical build up to the birth of Damien, scenes are unremarkably predictable and move slower than molasses, and the only time I was able to stay awake during the screening was when the rest of the audience was laughing at the extreme over-acting. The first indicator was the film’s score, which would have been more appropriate for a movie like “Jaws” than for a spiritual thriller. Just as in the case of “The Da Vinci Code,” too much hype and not enough content. On a scale of 1 to 10, The Omen 2006 rates a 1.

the movie was horrible…the best part was when that old bitch got hit by the car…and the drift scene one the way to the church were aaweSOME!!!! but that nigga got shot, WTF!?!??!!, and then the lil fucker shows up witht the damn president WTF HAX?!?!?!?
