China Says No To Horror, But We Still Have Japan
As the 2008 Beijing Olympics gets closer, the Chinese Government has decided to ban all sorts of video and audio content. What’s on the list? Well, it’s “wronged spirits and violent ghosts, monsters, demons, and other inhuman portrayals, strange and supernatural storytelling for the sole purpose of seeking terror and horror,” according to their administration.
I applaud China for wanting to put a cleaner face on things, but am thankful that we’ll still get all those crazy J-Horror remakes from Japan, such as The Ring, The Ring 2 (adapted from Ringu) The Grudge (from Ju-on), and the latest installment, The Eye, starring Jessica Alba. Frankly, I don’t think the world would be the same without the blue girl and the cat boy from The Grudge 2.
