Interview with ‘Psych:9′ Director Andrew Shortell
January 27, 2010 by Alison
A young woman seeks out the mundane after a troubled past and finds peace in a hospital alone at night, collating patient records. That is, until a series of unsettling events leads her to believe the hospital may be connected to a number of recent murders in the area. To get to the truth, Roslyn must solve the mystery of her own disturbing past.
The first clips for UK horror-thriller Psych:9 were released earlier this month and I recently had the opportunity to talk with director Andrew Shortell about the film that stars Sara Foster (The Big Bounce) as Roslyn, Cary …read more
Creepy Critic: ‘Carnival of Souls’ Review
January 20, 2010 by Alison
Recent films like Paranormal Activity and The House of the Devil owe a debt of gratitude to Herk Harvey’s cult classic, Carnival of Souls. The film was made for a mere $33,000 and relies on dramatic black-and-white photography and a dreamy atmosphere to conjure the horror beneath the everyday. A young organist’s life is transformed after a car crash and she becomes haunted by a ghostly figure.
From the start of the film (there are no opening credits) we are jolted into Mary Henry’s (Candace Hilligoss) world. A drag race sends Mary’s car plummeting into a river, but she mysteriously survives …read more
After Dark Films Adds ‘Kill Theory’ to Horrorfest 4 Lineup
January 12, 2010 by Alison
The eighth and final film has been chosen for After Dark Films’ Horrorfest 4 which runs for one week starting January 29. Kill Theory is a psychological thriller that stretches the limitations of friendship.
Kill Theory was written by Kelly Palmer and directed by Chris Moore (Producer, Good Will Hunting and upcoming Adjustment Bureau). Agnes Bruckner, Patrick Flueger, Taryn Manning, Teddy Dunn, Ryanne Duzich, Daniel Franzese, Theo Rossi, Steffi Wickens, and Kevin Gage also star.
In Kill Theory, a group of college friends visit a secluded vacation home to celebrate their impending graduation. The fun doesn’t last long, however. Forced to participate …read more
New One Sheets for ‘The Crazies’ Remake
December 21, 2009 by Alison
Even though I will never be able to forgive Brett Eisner for attempting to remake The Brood, I’m actually kind of interested in seeing his remake of The Crazies, which Overture Films is releasing February 26, 2010.
There are some new one sheet images floating around which I caught on Dread Central today. Check out this one which features a nasty looking pitchfork. Mmm. Pitchfork.
The remake of George A. Romero’s 1973 film stars Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Reegan, Danielle Panabaker, Joe Anderson and Justin Welborn. The original film tells the story an accidental release of a military biological weapon in an American …read more

First Look at the UK Horror-Thriller ‘Psych:9′
Director Andrew Shortell and writer Lawrence Robinson are behind the new horror-thriller, Psych:9, starring Sara Foster (‘The Big Bounce’), Cary Elwes (‘Saw’), Michael Biehn (‘Aliens’) and Gabriel Mann (‘The Bourne Supremacy’). I wonder if Cary gets to keep his foot this time around.

In Psych:9, a young woman with a troubled past takes a job at a recently closed hospital to collate the …read more
Exclusive Interview With David Richmond-Peck From ‘V’
November 24, 2009 by Alison
When the TV series V hit the air in 1983, it quickly established itself as the thinking man’s sci-fi–an allegorical and creative imagining that combined suspense, action and philosophical drama (with a nice helping of cheese thrown in for good measure). It was easy to ignore the low production value for a great story that at its heart was very human despite the alien theme. This is the very reason I feel confident posting an ultimately sci-fi themed topic on a horror website.
Aside from being smart and seriously entertaining, there are many reasons that the show appealed to horror audiences. …read more
New Zombie Short ‘Chemical 12-D’
I love being introduced to independent filmmakers in the horror world because it’s a good reminder that there really is more to the scene than the sludge being churned out by studio execs. Thanks to Stu from Buy Zombie, I was directed to the work of Chicago filmmaker Mac Eldridge and his new zombie short Chemical 12-D.
The story surrounds Michael Frank who has been living alone in a post apocalyptic world for some time. He tries to cope with his new existence by searching for a cure that will end the zombie outbreak. One day, he comes across a newly …read more
