Lionsgate is Having ‘The Last Exorcism’

Lionsgate won the battle to distribute the Eli Roth produced film, The Last Exorcism. If you’re wondering why you haven’t heard of this one before–well, you have. They renamed the film, which was previously titled, Cotton. Personally, I’m not a fan of either title, but I’ll still curious to see the faux documentary feature about a disillusioned minister who lets a film crew record his his last exorcism.
“After a career spent helping the devout through prayer and trickery, Rev. Cotton Marcus invites a film crew to document his final fraudulent days as an exorcist. Soon his faith is truly tested …read more

Ti West Tells Haunted Tale in ‘The Innkeepers’

If there’s one director I couldn’t be more anxious to see more from, it would be Ti West. He blew me away with his satanic, 80’s throwback The House of the Devil and wooed me with his web series, Dead & Lonely. Now he’s dishing up a story about a haunted hotel in The Innkeepers.
West wrapped a deal he made at Sundance on Sunday with Dark Sky films financing/producing and Larry Fessenden’s Glass Eye Pix. He commented that he intends The Innkeepers to be “a truly terrifying” follow-up to The House of the Devil. Lensing starts in Connecticut this Spring. …read more

Robert Englund Guest Stars on ‘Bones’

Robert Englund Guest Stars on ‘Bones’

Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund will guest star in an upcoming episode of the forensic crime-drama series, Bones. The series stars David Boreanaz (Buffy, Angel) as Detective Booth and Emily Deschanel (Spider-Man 2) as Dr. Brennan, whose nickname is ‘Bones’.
Englund will star in a new episode as a janitor at a high school where a murder takes place, according to STYD. The crime actually takes place at Booth’s old high school, which means I’m sure it will be filled with lots of annoying pseudo-witticisms to tell the background story and so on.
I gave Bones a try. It’s really …read more

Danny Boyle Brings ‘Frankenstein’ to the Stage

In March, Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle will begin filming 127 Hours, his adaptation of the true-life story of Aron Ralston (played by James Franco). The film details the hiker’s grueling five-day ordeal while being pinned under a boulder. Anyone forced to amputate their own arm with a dull knife deserves his own movie.
In the meantime, Boyle has his sights set on a stage production of Frankenstein. Screenwriter Nick Pear (Persuasion) has teamed up with Boyle to bring the adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic tale to audiences next winter at the National Theater in London. The play will be filmed …read more

Distract Yourself from ‘Hobbit’ News with Creepy Spanish Short ‘Mamá’

While rumors about Guillermo del Toro’s The Hobbit were recently debunked, the director has enough projects on the horizon to keep our attention shifted elsewhere. Even though Del Toro is up to his proverbial eyeballs in film, he somehow managed to find time to support the work of budding filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti. Del Toro will be helping them develop a feature version of their short film, Mamá, which was a festival hit during its release in 2008. Though the clip looks promising in its own right, it wouldn’t hurt to have thee Del Toro backing them. He helped …read more

Interview With Lance Henriksen: Part 1

Lance Henriksen’s filmography is a mile long and he always has a dozen projects in the works at any given time. Like many of the characters he has portrayed throughout his career, his energy is fierce and unyielding. Cool confidence and the wisdom of age cannot betray his passion for the challenges of acting and of life. The gravel of his voice is more soothing than distressing; words are impressed upon you with the solemnity of a person who is sharing some secret knowledge only you are privy to. The deep creases of a weathered brow might be evidence of …read more

If ‘Buffy the Vampire’s’ Faith and Buffy Had a Baby…

If ‘Buffy the Vampire’s’ Faith and Buffy Had a Baby…

I’ve always been fascinated by twins and other strange anomalies of nature. When Buffy the Vampire star Alyson Hannigan (Willow) posted this picture on her Twitter account, I got totally spooked.

Alyson wrote of the picture, “If Eliza and Sarah were combined into one person…” Yep, that looks like Alyson standing next to a Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Faith (Eliza Dushku) hybrid. And what are the chances of randomly meeting someone like that? Bizarro world!
Maybe Joss Whedon can recover from Dollhouse sadness by casting this chick in a new Buffy script. It seemed to be the only show that didn’t …read more
