Lionsgate is Having ‘The Last Exorcism’

Lionsgate won the battle to distribute the Eli Roth produced film, The Last Exorcism. If you’re wondering why you haven’t heard of this one before–well, you have. They renamed the film, which was previously titled, Cotton. Personally, I’m not a fan of either title, but I’ll still curious to see the faux documentary feature about a disillusioned minister who lets a film crew record his his last exorcism.
“After a career spent helping the devout through prayer and trickery, Rev. Cotton Marcus invites a film crew to document his final fraudulent days as an exorcist. Soon his faith is truly tested …read more

Interview with ‘Psych:9′ Director Andrew Shortell

A young woman seeks out the mundane after a troubled past and finds peace in a hospital alone at night, collating patient records. That is, until a series of unsettling events leads her to believe the hospital may be connected to a number of recent murders in the area. To get to the truth, Roslyn must solve the mystery of her own disturbing past.

The first clips for UK horror-thriller Psych:9 were released earlier this month and I recently had the opportunity to talk with director Andrew Shortell about the film that stars Sara Foster (The Big Bounce) as Roslyn, Cary …read more

Saw VII 3D vs. Paranormal Activity 2

Saw VII 3D vs. Paranormal Activity 2

Taking a cue from Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno, Lionsgate and Paramount have decided to go head-to-head when it comes to their box office darlings, Saw VII 3D and Paranormal Activity 2.
Paramount hired Saw VI director Kevin Greutert and prime time veteran writer Michael R. Perry to create the sequel to last year’s indie sensation, Paranormal Activity. Ironically, this would have put Paranormal Activity 2 up against Lionsgate’s Saw VII for this year’s pre-Halloween weekend. Apparently, this got Lionsgate’s panties in a twist and they have decided to exercise an option in Greutert’s contract that forces him back to the …read more

Distract Yourself from ‘Hobbit’ News with Creepy Spanish Short ‘Mamá’

While rumors about Guillermo del Toro’s The Hobbit were recently debunked, the director has enough projects on the horizon to keep our attention shifted elsewhere. Even though Del Toro is up to his proverbial eyeballs in film, he somehow managed to find time to support the work of budding filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti. Del Toro will be helping them develop a feature version of their short film, Mamá, which was a festival hit during its release in 2008. Though the clip looks promising in its own right, it wouldn’t hurt to have thee Del Toro backing them. He helped …read more

New One Sheets for ‘The Reeds’, ‘Lake Mungo’ and ‘The Violent Kind’

The After Dark Horrorfest 4 lineup is almost upon us (opening January 29) and The Reeds and Lake Mungo both have some new one sheets to celebrate with.

The Reeds takes six friends on a deadly weekend boating trip through the Norfolk Broads and Lake Mungo is a supernatural mystery surrounding the drowning of a young girl. I’ll be anxious to find out if this one is as similar to Twin Peaks as it sounds. Bob wouldn’t like that.
Bloody-Disgusting also premiered this new one sheet for The Violent Kind, which makes its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. In the film …read more

‘Jennifer’s Body’ Comes to DVD and Blu-Ray + Review

The Diablo Cody (Juno) penned high school horror flick Jennifer’s Body will be released on DVD and Blu-ray December 29 and features an all-new unrated extended cut. I didn’t see the movie in theaters so this was my first viewing of the film and I went straight for the sexy, unrated gore. I’m sad to say I don’t have a Blu-ray player but the features that come with it look decent–including video diaries, deleted scenes, a gag reel and a few documentary featurettes. My DVD featured an audio commentary which I had no desire to listen to after watching Megan Fox …read more

Meet The Other Creatures of ‘Dark Shadows’

Meet The Other Creatures of ‘Dark Shadows’

I gave you a hint about this in July and today I am beyond excited by the news that Tim Burton has officially signed on for a remake of the popular vampire soap opera, Dark Shadows–set to film in 2010. Equally exciting but not surprising is confirmation of Johnny Depp in the role of lead vampire Barnabas Collins. I’m sure we’ll be seeing some of the other usual suspects and that’s ok by me. I haven’t raced to the theater for any Burton films as of late but I have faith that the spooky visionary can do something imaginative with …read more

Interview With Filmmaker Richard Ledes About Upcoming Haunt Flick ‘Foreclosure’

Though it’s often hard because of my job, I’m one of those people who tries to avoid learning too much about a film before I see it. Particularly if it’s one I’m excited about. Case in point–Paranormal Activity. Many people who saw Paranormal Activity late in the game absolutely hated it. I can’t say I blame them after one of the trailers gave away the biggest scare in the film and the hype surrounding it became so infectious, there was no avoiding it no matter how hard you tried.
Director Richard Ledes is playing it smart. He’s only giving audiences a …read more
