Since The Last Lovecraft: The Relic of Cthulhu just made its Slamdance Festival debut, I thought it would be proper to dedicate this Video Vault to a few noteworthy Lovecraftian horror flicks.
Caltiki – The Immortal Monster, 1959
One of the earliest Lovecraftian horror efforts, directed by Riccardo Freda, with a then unknown Mario Bava (credited as John Foam) doing cinematography. Freda claimed that Bava did most of the directing uncredited. In Caltiki, archaeologists encounter a blob-like monster while exploring Mayan ruins. I’m donning a little plaid today (exactly where you’re imagining) and in honor of schoolgirls everywhere I present to you the Schoolgirl Edition of Video Vault . Today’s lesson consists of a few clips from the German sleaze-fest known as Schulmadchen Report (Schoolgirl Report), as well as a few Asian schoolgirl horror trailers.

Video Vault: ‘How to Survive a Horror Movie’

CBS’s How to Survive a Horror Movie was an 18-episode, 1950’s style training video series that poked fun at some of the common cliches in horror movies, as well as a few movies themselves. The 2007 webisodes were written and co-directed by Seth Grahame-Smith who wrote the book of the same name. You probably know him better for his zombie opus, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which is currently being raped by the likes of Natalie Portman in the upcoming feature film.
