Game Review: ‘Darksiders’ – It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
Behold–Marcus’ review of the post-Apocalyptic adventure game, Darksiders.
“This is the way the world ends; Not with a bang but a whimper.” T.S. Eliot said that. He was wrong.
As anyone who’s played Darksiders (inaugural offering from new kids on the block Vigil Games) knows, it ends with a blitzkrieg of flaming meteors and warring angels and demons. And we get front row seats, watching the carnage unfold through the eyes of War (of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse fame), who is understandably irked at being blamed for prematurely triggering Judgement Day. This glorious reign of destruction is soon …read more
Game Review: ‘Mass Effect 2′ – Mass Appeal?
February 4, 2010 by Alison
My gamer fiend Marcus has bestowed upon me a review for the game that all the cool kids are playing right now…
Have you ever had one of those days? Commander Sheppard, chisel-jawed hero of the first Mass Effect, has. After assembling a crew of the galaxy’s finest and becoming the first human spectre he defeated Saren and his army of Geth and saved the universe. After all that you’d think he’d have earned a holiday. Think again. Unfortunately for the good Commander, BioWare have other ideas.
Mass Effect 2 continues the trilogy by picking up directly where the first outing left …read more
Witch Slap

Another game review from Marcus about a witch with guns named Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. Nice!
Gone are the days of green-skinned crones with warts and unfashionable pointy hats. Bayonetta, the impossibly stylish star of Sega’s latest opus, is anything but your stereotypical witch. Sporting a tight leather outfit, black boots and girl next door glasses, say hello to the new cosplay pinup girl.
From the creative genius that brought us the Devil May Cry series, Bayonetta is staking its claim as the most ludicrous, over-the-top game currently on the market. A third person action beat/shoot/hack ‘em up, it kicks …read more
It’s a Cross-Universe Match-Up, My Dear Watson
January 6, 2010 by Alison
Marcus is back with a game review about the gentleman detective, Sherlock Holmes. Yes please.
When it comes to fictional face-offs they don’t get much more mouth-watering than Holmes vs. the Ripper. Consider the evidence–the world’s greatest detective on the trail of history’s most infamous serial killer, smog-choked Victorian London the backdrop, saving innocent lives the objective. Let the hunt begin…
Pre-eminently the domain of PC gamers, so-called ‘point and click’ adventures have a tendency to underperform on home consoles. For this reason alone Frogwares Studio deserves recognition for porting the game to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 (although sadly not to Sony’s PS3). …read more
Will You Boycott the End of the World?
Marcus is back with another game review.
Hands up if you signed the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott petition? Thousands of us did–there’s no shame in admitting it. Actually, that’s not true; I’m happy to report shame is exactly what we should be feeling.
During E3 2009, Valve Software caught gamers off-guard by announcing the sequel to 2008’s zombie apocalypse co-op FPS Left 4 Dead. For many it was the icing on an already delicious cake, but for others it caused more than a rumble of concern. Many believed a full-blown sequel this early in the IP’s lifecycle was both overly ambitious …read more
‘Ghosts Attack’ the iPhone
December 14, 2009 by Alison
In the 1960’s thirteen scientists were accidentally transported to a parallel dimension after a failed teleportation experiment, never to be seen again. The company that employed these scientists is now dispatching remote controlled Rovers to explore and conquer the new empire. Yeah, that didn’t really happen but Tarver Games’ new paranormal iPhone game, Ghosts Attack, wants you to pretend that it did.
The game uses world map and GPS coordinates to create new game levels that allows players to enter an alternate reality gaming experience (ARG) that corresponds to the real world. Basically, you get to tool around in a Rover …read more
Want to Play a Game? Marcus Reviews ‘SAW’
December 5, 2009 by Alison
Sadly, I’m one of 2 people in the entire universe who doesn’t have a game console. Yes, you read that right. This is not by choice mind you–it’s just not in the budget at the moment. I currently get my fix by skulking about at the local laundromat where a beautiful Ms. Pacman arcade lives and she’s FREE. The owner doesn’t speak any English but I’ve somehow deduced that someone either broke it and he never bothered fixing it, or he never bothered ‘locking’ it. Either way, I win.
With so many good games coming out right now (you Left 4 …read more
