Gore Gallery: Justin Hall Photography
December 21, 2009 by Alison
A friend of mine clued me in to this monster photo that was taken of her and her husband, called Frankenstein’s Car Troubles.
Justin Hall is the photographer behind these hyper-real images with a liberal dose of humor. I love the fact that even though the images are so heightened they’re unreal, he still manages to capture the essential humanity of all his subjects–monster or not. I’m hoping for more photos in this series, but for now we also have this image–à la Teen Wolf.
Please visit Justin’s website to see his amazing portraits. Which one is your favorite?

Gore Gallery: Paul Booth’s Last Rites Tattoo Theatre Presents Halloween Creep-In Day
October 28, 2009 by Alison
I’ve been an admirer of Paul Booth’s work for some time and it was no surprise to me when I finally had the dough to get inked again that there was a year long waiting list!
Paul Booth and the Last Rites Tattoo Theatre team wants to celebrate Halloween by offering people a rare opportunity to be tattooed spontaneously without an appointment–something they’re calling Creep-In Day.
“We want to show our fans our true appreciation for their support, by allowing them the opportunity to avoid the waiting list… and get tattooed convention style. I have been spending quite a bit of time …read more

Their inaugural show is the Seventh Annual Halloween Show which features the dark and spooky with a pop sensibility. Gore Gallery: Knitted Dissections and Knitidermy
October 23, 2009 by Alison
Welcome to biology class. Bloated carcasses–splayed open with innards that gleam perversely at you. Pins submerged in fatty wax. And the smell–oh the smell. There’s nothing quite like it and while many wouldn’t care to relive the experience, I remain fascinated by these creatures. Right now, someone wants to take my vegetarian card away from me but as many horror fans will tell you–we are not squeamish when it comes to this stuff.
Emily Stoneking aka the Crafty Hedgehog is a knitted dissection and knitidermy expert. She crafts all the little creatures you have fond memories of slicing and dicing in …read more
Gore Gallery: The Body in Bread
Artist Kittiwat Unarrom skillfully creates bruised and battered body parts–all out of bread. His family runs a bakery in Thailand which provides the perfect studio for his gorgeously gruesome creations. His bread sculptures are made out of dough, raisins, cashews and chocolate. Then, Unarrom adds the finishing touches. He’s putting his Masters of Fine Arts to good use and I’m jealous I didn’t think of this idea before him. Check out these videos which showcase some of Unarrom’s amazing creations.
Gore Gallery: The Art of Kristian Hammerstad
September 24, 2009 by Alison
Norwegian artist Kristian Hammerstad’s work is Monster-Pop at its finest and loaded with slick references to all his childhood and teenage obsessions. “Some of my first memories of being awed by artwork was seeing skateboard graphics that the older guys in my neighborhood had.” Other influences include comic books, sci-fi/horror novels and John Carpenter–”[He] always keeps what seems like an almost child-like inventiveness and joy of film-making shining through.”
Kristian’s work has been compared to everything from Charles Burns, to old Jack Kirby, to 1960’s illustration–but his style is truly his own. Check out these images and visit his website for …read more
Gore Gallery: The Art of Tim O’Hanlon
The DIY aesthetic is alive and well in Philadelphia. Everywhere you look there is amazing art whether it be on the street or in the galleries. It’s accessible, affordable and one of a kind. Tim O’Hanlon’s work is all that.
Tim started started off making t-shirts for bands he liked and traded them for CDs and band t’s. Since then he’s shown his work at places like The Toothless Cat Gallery in Philadelphia and Thee Parkside in San Francisco. Completely unassuming and in the true spirit of DIY, Tim is happiest knowing someone likes his work enough to wear it or …read more
Gore Gallery: Exclusive Interview With Photographer Joshua Hoffine
September 20, 2009 by Alison
Imagine all of your childhood fears brought to life. That anxiety you used to feel, and often relive. The shadows lurking in the dim corners of your mind. Photographer Joshua Hoffine’s work dwells in this nightmarish realm and confronts the viewer with technicolor fragments of our darkest subconscious. His series of photographs, appropriately called After Dark My Sweet, is based on these childhood fears and utilizes elaborate props, special effects makeup and costumes to create a world where the monsters won’t soon let you forget them.
