Famous Monsters of Filmland Convention on its Way!

A little over a month ago, Famous Monsters of Filmland announced that they were rising from the ashes once more after closing the book back in 1983–191 issues deep. This was truly a sad day for fans, many who had followed the magazine since its inception in 1958 with Warren Publishing. Editor Forrest J. Ackerman enthusiastically approached every issue about the classic monsters he loved like the Wolfman and King Kong. Eventually he branched off to interviews with the people behind the scenes, including makeup artists and screenwriters–you know, the people who often go overlooked. The magazine obviously showed that …read more

Celebrate ‘Women in Horror Month’ in February

I first learned about Women in Horror month by landing on the Ax Wound website run by Hannah Neurotica. Her zine focuses on gender in the horror genre so it seemed logical that she would pen a manifesto about Women in Horror and tag February as the month to celebrate the feminine in fear.
There’s an interesting conversation with Fangoria’s Rebekah McKendry on Ax Wound which everyone should check out. I have a background in academics like Rebekah, so I always enjoy reading her point of view on these matters. After what I imagine to be many conversations like these with …read more

If ‘Buffy the Vampire’s’ Faith and Buffy Had a Baby…

If ‘Buffy the Vampire’s’ Faith and Buffy Had a Baby…

I’ve always been fascinated by twins and other strange anomalies of nature. When Buffy the Vampire star Alyson Hannigan (Willow) posted this picture on her Twitter account, I got totally spooked.

Alyson wrote of the picture, “If Eliza and Sarah were combined into one person…” Yep, that looks like Alyson standing next to a Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Faith (Eliza Dushku) hybrid. And what are the chances of randomly meeting someone like that? Bizarro world!
Maybe Joss Whedon can recover from Dollhouse sadness by casting this chick in a new Buffy script. It seemed to be the only show that didn’t …read more

Doug Bradley Talks ‘Hellrasier’

I came across a great interview with Doug Bradley, the English actor famous for his role as Pinhead in the Hellraiser series. His voice and face are synonymous with pain, blood and all the yummy things that make the cenobites the amazing creatures that they are.
Dread Central did the interview with Bradley and in it he discusses how the character came about (it almost didn’t!) and his feelings about the Hellraiser remake.
“Having someone else play Pinhead and the fact that they are doing a remake bothers me on so many different levels. That character, much like Robert (Englund) and Freddy, …read more

Winner Announced: National Halloween Convention VIP Passes

Can we just pretend that I lost all sense of time and space this week? The winners for the National Halloween Convention VIP passes giveaway were supposed to be announced yesterday but I battled with the forces of evil yesterday, which made me a day late. My apologies.

There’s a ton of stuff going on at the convention including classes, competitions, a masquerade ball and a lot full of …read more
