Dark Castle Taking ‘Splice’?
February 13, 2010 by Alison
I heard nothing but good reviews about Splice after it screened at the Sundance Film Festival. There was talk about the feature going straight to DVD and getting a limited theatrical release but the film, directed by Vincenzo Natali (Cube), looks like it may be getting picked up by Joel Silver’s Dark Castle label, with the promise of a 3,000 screen release!
Deadline recently reported that Dark Castle is in the final closing stages of a distribution deal for Splice and if it pans out, “it will give the film a wide summer release on 3,000 screens and a P&A commitment …read more
Lionsgate is Having ‘The Last Exorcism’
February 13, 2010 by Alison
Lionsgate won the battle to distribute the Eli Roth produced film, The Last Exorcism. If you’re wondering why you haven’t heard of this one before–well, you have. They renamed the film, which was previously titled, Cotton. Personally, I’m not a fan of either title, but I’ll still curious to see the faux documentary feature about a disillusioned minister who lets a film crew record his his last exorcism.
“After a career spent helping the devout through prayer and trickery, Rev. Cotton Marcus invites a film crew to document his final fraudulent days as an exorcist. Soon his faith is truly tested …read more
Exclusive: Interview with ‘Hellboy’s’ Peter Briggs and Storyboards from ‘Panzer 88′
February 12, 2010 by Alison
Peter Briggs is up to his ears in supernatural ooze. He’s currently working on Mortis Rex, which tells the story of a disgraced Roman war hero who comes face to face with an otherworldly beast. Last week we learned that the Hellboy co-writer is gearing up for Panzer 88, a character-driven, supernatural thriller–this one set inside a German King Tiger fleeing Russia during World War II. The soldiers also happen to be fleeing a centuries-old, malevolent creature that has other plans for them.
I recently had the opportunity to talk with Briggs, who divulged further details on Panzer 88’s story and …read more
Dead Girls Don’t Say No and Have an ‘Exquisite Corpse’
February 11, 2010 by Alison
Upon hearing that there was a new film titled, Exquisite Corpse, I was excited to think that someone was bringing Poppy Z. Brite’s novel of the same name to the big screen. When watching the trailer I was met with something entirely different. Scott David Russell’s film starring Steve Sandvoss, Nicole Vicius, Guillermo Diaz, Tessa Thompson, and Larry Cedar, will be playing later this month at the EFM (European Film Market) and has nothing to do with a homosexual serial killer, cannibal, necrophiliac (not quite). Dammit.
Nicholas is a young neuroscientist who is obsessed with two things. He discovered a serum …read more
New Clips for Scorsese’s ‘Shutter Island’
February 10, 2010 by Alison
Two new clips arrived from Martin Scorsese’s latest film, Shutter Island, which is one movie I am very much looking forward to. The ominous and almost Gothic setting is perfect for Laeta Kalogridis’ story about two U.S. marshals who investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from a hospital for the criminally insane, that looms like a fortress on the island.
The cast includes includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson and Max von Sydow. Of course the press release fails to mention actors Elias Koteas and Ted Levine whose performances will undoubtedly add to the creepy …read more

If the hilarious and noisy trailer wasn’t enough to reel you in then perhaps this little quagmire will. In a press release received today, it was revealed that Birdemic’s distributor, Severin, will be “transforming the theater into a temporary aviary with epic displays of Birdemic special effects, …read more
Landis Begins Shooting ‘Burke and Hare’
John Landis started principal photography on Burke & Hare and the cast is looking pretty fantastic. He’s been describing the film as a “black romantic comedy”–based on the true story of the 1828 body-snatcher duo, Burke and Hare. When the needs of Dr. Knox (Tom Wilkinson) and Dr. Monroe (Tim Curry) exceed the local supply, Burke and Hare come up with nefarious ways to deliver the dead as demanded.
Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis star as graverobbers William Burke and William Hare, respectively. The film also stars Isla Fisher (Confessions of a Shopaholic), Jessica Hynes (Spaced), Ronnie Corbett, Reece Shearsmith (The …read more
‘Nightbreed’ Screening at HorrorHound Weekend!
February 8, 2010 by Alison
And in other holy sh!t news, an uncut version of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed will be screened at HorrorHound Weekend in Indianapolis, which runs March 26-28! Please, please, please let this mean that a DVD and Blu-ray are in the works!
For those of you unfamiliar with Nightbreed’s back story, let me explain. Basically, the studio screwed Barker by forcing him to release an edited version of his original cut. Poor marketing and a cruddy video release made the film fade away. Thankfully, fans supported it and it was elevated to something of a cult flick. Hardcore Barker fans wondered for years …read more

Someone at Image Entertainment has a great sense of humor, or my inner perv is working overtime. Either way, the company is releasing The Daisy Chain on DVD, April 13.
