MTV Wants to Make a ‘Dawn of the Dead’ Series

That title should really read, ‘MTV is Bored and Wants to Rape One of My Favorite Films.’ Or, would you settle for ‘Does MTV Really Play Music Anymore?’ I think they all apply.
MTV is currently scheming ways to turn George A. Romero’s classic zombie flick, Dawn of the Dead, into a TV series. There are no other details at this time but isn’t this enough to make you want to Hulk smash everything in sight? MTV has stated that they’re interested in producing more things horror but are they doing it well? I didn’t see My Psycho Sweet 16 but …read more

‘The Thing’ Prequel Begins Filming in March

Universal’s prequel to John Carpenter’s classic, The Thing, is set to start filing this March in Toronto. Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment will be working with director Matthijs van Heijningen to direct the film from a screenplay by Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer (Platinum Dunes’ A Nightmare on Elm Street). Is anyone else crying yet?
From Heisserer’s blog:
“Matthijs and I are hard at work with the very smart team at Strike on the prequel. We are all so much in love with Carpenter’s film, so protective of it, we’re doing all we can to avoid stepping on its toes. I …read more

Christopher Lee Throws the Horns for His New Album

If you read Screamstress then you know any time I can post videos of Christopher Lee singing I will. Well, the horror icon and veteran actor will be releasing a ’symphonic metal’ album, Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross on March 15.
“The story of King Charlemagne, First Holy Roman Emperor, acted and sung by the legendary actor Christopher Lee. Sir Christopher is the highest grossing actor of all time, with cinematic milestones such as “Lord Of The Rings”, “Star Wars”, “The Man with the Golden Gun” and “Dracula”, amongst over 280 movies – and still counting!
The Carandinis, Lee’s maternal …read more

‘Wicker Man’s’ Edward Woodward Dies at 79

The Guardian reported that Edward Woodward, the British actor who starred in The Wicker Man and TV shows The Equalizer and Callan died from various complications at the age of 79. His agent issued this statement:
“Universally loved and admired through his unforgettable roles in classic productions such as Breaker Morant, The Wicker Man, Callan, The Equalizer and many more, he was equally fine and courageous in real life, never losing his brave spirit and wonderful humour throughout his illness.”
Woodward played Sergeant Howie in the 1974 film, The Wicker Man (one of my favorite films). The film also stars Christopher Lee, …read more

‘The Exorcist’ Mini-Series?

Whoa! My head is spinning and I’m spewing green stuff everywhere over the news that Shock Till You Drop first bleeped about that William Peter Blatty and William Friedkin will reunite for an Exorcist mini-series.
Cemetery Dance magazine interviewed Blatty for their latest edition, where he talks about The Exorcist and his novel Legion. Exorcist III was based on the novel and is quite good. All hail the great George C. Scott and Brad Dourif! When CD mag asked if there was anything he would change about the original film, Blatty replied:
“Yes and no. I would love to have been able …read more

The Gothic goddesses of Hammer Film Productions are some of the most remembered scream queens and villainous vixens in horror film history. These ladies are a true international delight–gorgeous women from countries the world over that all contributed to the success of Hammer’s reign from the 1950’s to the 1970’s. Aside from horror greats Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, the women of Hammer are some of the most iconic figures in the films they helped make legendary.

‘Suspiria’ Remake in 2010?

Out of the films in Dario Argento’s The Three Mothers trilogy, I never expected that someone would remake one of my favorite films, Suspiria–but they are and it’s set to start shooting in 2010. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the director is David Gordon Green whose work includes Pineapple Express. Umm, what!!? The film is produced by Luca Guadagnino and it has been rumored that Natalie Portman will play the lead role of Suzy–ugh!
In the original film, Suzy Banyon, a young American ballet dancer, arrives at a prestigious European dance academy run by the mysterious Madame Blanc and Miss Tanner. After …read more

5 Clips from The Last House on the Left – VIDEOS

Rogue Pictures’ The Last House on the Left arrives in theaters March 13, 2009, and it’s actually a remake to the second power. What the heck does that mean? It’s my lame way of saying this film is a remake of Wes Craven’s 1972 film, which in turn is a remake of Ingmar Bergman’s 1960 film “Jungfrukällan," a.k.a. “The Virgin Spring.”
It tells the story of a gang who, after kidnapping and brutalizing two young women, unknowingly end up staying at a vacation home belonging to the parents of one of the victims. Stars Sara Paxton, Monica Potter, Tony Goldwyn and Martha …read more

"The Last House on the Left" – Preview & Trailer

The original version of "The Last House on the Left," directed by Wes Craven, came out in 1972. Now there’s a new version of the slasher film directed by Dennis Iliadis, due out sometime in 2009.
Here’s the scoop: The night she arrives at the remote Collingwood lake house, Mari (Sara Paxton) and her friend are kidnapped by a prison escapee and his crew.  Terrified and left for dead, Mari’s only hope is to make it back to parents John and Emma (Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter).  Unfortunately, her attackers unknowingly seek shelter at the one place she could be …read more
