Catching Up With Amber Benson
Amber Benson first got my attention as character Tara Maclay, the girlfriend 
of Willow and shy witch on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Since then, I’ve seen her on an episode of Supernatural, as Lenore, and have loved her style ever since. Although much of her work has been drama, and some comedy, many are happy to have her in the horror/supernatural realm of acting.
In Buffy, her character of Tara always seemed to be such an unusual individual, and it may be that Amber can’t help but be as unique as she is, and it makes her a better actor.
Besides acting, Amber has written and starred in her own movie (Chance), wrote stage plays and scripts for other independent films (The Theory of The Leisure Class), and has played in a band. She’s also written a comic based on the characters of Willow and Tara as a part of the Buffy comic series.
Amber is one busy girl, and between her writing and upcoming film productions, she seems to be having a lot of fun.
One of her comments I’ve found quite interesting and could be considered controversial is what she had to say in 1997 about her portrayal of the lesbian, Tara on “Buffy”.
Amber said she was amazed that playing the role had such an impact on young girls, and that she received many letters from girls who essentially came out and got girlfriends.
Some of Amber’s latest horror projects include:
- One Eyed Monster - Amber has the starring role is in this comedy/horror film about a group of people who go to a remote mountain location to shoot an adult movie, only to find that they are not alone in the woods. This film is set for release this year.
- Shifter - In Shifter, which takes the werewolf mythology to a new level, a mob hitman who has some strange abilities must go up against something just as skilled in killing. This film is in pre-production status.
