‘Dexter’ Animated Web Series

January 5, 2010 by Alison

I started watching the first season of Dexter because everyone in my Twitterverse has been going off about the season finale of Season 4. So far I’m feeling lukewarm about the whole thing and I’ve nearly completed the first season. I agree wholeheartedly with my brother who says Dexter is “a really good network show with more gore and lots of sexytime.” Yeah, that about sums it up. The writing is only so-so but I’ve adored Michael C. Hall since Six Feet Under so I think it’s time to overlook Dexter’s shortcomings and let down my defenses.

To keep the Dexter lovin alive during the down time, you can watch Dexter: Early Cuts, a twelve-part animated web series, that premiered in October 2009 and concluded on January 3rd. Michael C. Hall provides the voice of Dexter.

The web series revolves around Dexter hunting down the 3 victims that he mentions in the sixth episode of season 1, “Return to Sender” on 3 separate occasions. Each victim has their own story and each one is split into 4 chapters. You can check out the first two of the videos and visit the Showtime site for more.

The fifth season of Dexter premieres on September 26.

I think the first two seasons of Dexter are pretty good… but nothing in them makes it the best show on television. To me, the third season of the show dropped off in quality and this past season (this is going to get some flack) wasted John Lithgow (but he was still the best part of season four). My biggest problem with the show is with Dexter’s sister, Debra… I think she’s annoying as hell and I usually end up muting the show whenever she’s on the screen. For season five, I’d love to see a serial killer Battle Royal… that would be awesome.

i just found out that Michael C. Hall is married to Jennifer Carpenter (his sister on the show). hehehehehe.

I really loved the first two seasons of Dexter, but the third season had it’s flaws. It didn’t hold your attention as much, but I think they fixed that with the fourth season. Although, I wouldn’t rave about the fourth season, I do believe it to be one of the better seasons and story lines. As for John Lithgow, I have never been a fan of his but he did a great job with his character. I think you need to get over your love for Michael C. Hall from Six Feet Under and welcome Dexter with open arms and watch the rest of the series.

It seems that they have come to the point that the writers are now recycling storylines… you shouldn’t read this part Alison… on the show. I mean, Doakes knew there was something different about Dexter and started following him around (which the put the kibosh on at the end of season 2) and now they seem to be setting Quinn up for that same exact role. And my qualm with season 3 was that a certain character was able to put the pieces together about Dexter within, say, three.. maybe even four episodes at the most… while the rest of the Miami PD can’t put it together… hell, not even Frank Lundy, the FBI profiler could put the pieces together… and Debra is the worst cop ever.

I seem to be following Andre around on these comments, but I also gave you an award on my blog. You are definitely one of my favorites :)

Not sure if my original comment got lost, but just wanted to let you know I also gave you an award on my blog because you are truly the awesome-est! (I’m sleepy and making up words)

I absolutely love Debra on the show. Sure she was obnoxious in the first season, but she’s grown on me. She was spectacular in the fourth season imo. I can’t wait to see what happens with her and her investigation into Dexter’s past. That’s the real storyline I’m looking forward to!

she’s growing on me a tiny bit. i find her awkwardness charming sometimes and it almost feels as though her real life personality and on screen collide into this really seamless blend. good stuff.
