Brad Pitt to Produce Summit’s New Vampire Flick

Do my eyes deceive me or is the man who once starred in front of the camera as one of Anne Rice’s romantic vampires, Brad Pitt, going to produce a vampire film? Nice! Summit Entertainment wants to leave their mark on the vampire genre and will be working with Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B in a new film franchise, Vlad.

The script for Vlad is penned by Charlie Hunnam and Summit is currently in negotiations with photographer Anthony Mandler who is known for his work on music videos (Rhianna, Eminem, The Killers). Pitt will be producing with pal Dede Gardner for this action based Dracula-centric flick. Any vampire fan worth their salt knows the tale of Vlad the Impaler–the blood thirsty Prince behind the famous Dracula myth. Check out the interesting video documentary below for more information. According to Bloody-Disgusting, Summit execs got an eyeful of Mandler’s project reel and gave it the green light immediately. They drew comparisons Zack Snyder and his work on 300. Summit hopes to make an edgy and radical period film which will introduce some new talent into the mix. Nice job on Summit’s part for cornering the vampire market but I hope they will dish up something more interesting than sparkly vampires with furrowed brows. I don’t hate Twilight fans but I am just not interested in what the film has to offer to the vampire mythos. I’ll take big, CGI vampire action over pouty any day.
