Matt Reeves’ adaptation of the Swedish vampire flick, Let the Right One In, started principal photography this week in New Mexico.

Updates to the cast of Let Me In include Elias Koteas (the policeman), Cara Buono (Owen’s mother) and Sasha Barrese (Virginia). They will join the previously announced Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz in the lead roles of Owen and Abby (changed from Oskar and Eli) as well as Richard Jenkins who plays the guardian of Abby.

The story revolves around an alienated 12-year-old boy, Owen, who befriends a young girl who is living secretly as a vampire, in a small New Mexico town. The film is based on the novel, Lat den Ratte Komma In, by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist. The film’s press release reports that while “…the new film will pay respect to the original Swedish version, [we] intend to forge a unique identity for Let Me In, placing it firmly in an American context.”

Let Me In is being produced by Hammer Films’ parent company, Overture Films and is expected to be in theaters 2010. The newly resurrected Hammer acquired the rights to the film during the 2008 Tribecca Film Festival.

Reeves has acknowledged that people will be cynical about his adaptation. Are you totally attached to the original or will you be giving this one a chance?
