Dimension Films Pitches ‘Hellraiser 3D’ at AFM
Hurray for all the juicy tidbits that the American Film Market has been feeding us this week! Dimension Films wants to remake the 1987 film Hellraiser and offered a synopsis of the remake (also being called Clive Barker Presents Hellraiser) to AFM. Bloody-Disgusting has the skinny on the full details, which sound exactly like the original. So, no big surprises there. The whole 3D thing however will lend a completely different vibe to the film and may enhance the already gory effects to squirmtastical heights. It could also take away the deliciously dark feel of the original and turn it into a horrid sideshow act. I guess we’ll see!
Hellraiser is based off the novella, The Hellbound Heart, written by Clive Barker who also wrote and directed the film. The story centers around two lovers, one living and one now dead. The woman tries to assist her lover in his escape from hell but no one can hide from the Cenobites for long. The sadistic race of demons are summoned from a mystical puzzle box and bring forth with them a whole can of serious whoop-ass. You can read about why I love the Cenobites here.
So far, no director is attached to the project. Martyrs’ director Pascal Laugier was previously on board but has since dropped out. Oh noes! Dimension is rumored to be considering an entirely new script. The Hellraiser franchise has done pretty well for itself via the home video circuit. Let’s see if this 3D remake can get it back in the theaters where it belongs.
