‘Children of the Corn’ on Blu-ray & SyFy Remake

July 31, 2009 by Alison

Malachai and his buddies are back on Blu-ray August 25. The disc from Anchor Bay Entertainment contains three new featurettes and lots of other exclusive bonus features.

Stephen King wrote Children of the Corn in 1978 as part of the collected short stories, Night Shift. The film, directed by Fritz Kiersch, was released in 1984 but remains one of the most popular horror movies of all time.

Children of the Corn stars Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton and takes place in the fictional, rural town of Gatlin, Nebraska. A demonic entity referred to as “He Who Walks Behind The Rows” entices the children of the town to ritualistically murder all the adults to ensure a successful corn harvest.

SyFy (formerly Sci-Fi Channel) will make an adaptation of the film which is set to air September 26. The movie will star Heroes’ David Anders, Dexter’s Preston Bailey and Battlestar Galactica’s Kandyse McClure. Donald P. Borcher is directing and was also a producer on the original film.

P.S.

Ew. SyFy–silly name.

I can’t take SyFy seriously. Sci. Fi. Science. Fiction. Duh.

Clarke and Asimov would roll over in their graves.
