Scary Flicks “Taken” and “The Uninvited” Top Box Office
February 2, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
January and February always seem to feature movies that scare the crap out of us. Makes me wonder if we’re just so horrified at what might possibly happen in the coming year that we steel ourselves with scary movies. Any theories on that?
At any rate, “Taken,” the movie about a teen being sold into slavery, and “The Uninvited,” about a ghost terrorizing a young woman,” were tops at the box office this weekend. Well, with goofy “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” wedged right in the middle. Here’s the rundown from Box Office Mojo:
- Taken, $24.71M
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop, $13.87M
- The Uninvited, $10.32M
- Hotel for Dogs, $8.63M
- Gran Torino, $8.23M
- Slumdog Millionaire, $7.62M
- Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, $7.58M
- New in Town, $6.74M
- My Bloody Valentine 3D, $4.47M
- Inkheart, $3.72M

Hi Jane! I’m back with some comments on The Uninvited. I found this to be a neat little phschological thriller. It proved to be much better than I anticipated especially after reading several reviews. I am usually turned off by excessive gore so I was grateful to be spared that. What I did find annoying was the way they had to resort to the typical gimmickry in order to scare (startle) us. It has all been done to excess in the past with the loud noises, quick scene changes and sometimes flying felines!
I found the story to be pretty good (not great) and the actors did a workman like job that kept me interested. I enjoyed the shots of the house and the surrounding lake area very much. I also thought that the ending was quite nicely wrapped up for us.
All in all, a pretty good movie.
