Just off the heels of his role in Bangkok Dangerous, Nicholas Cage is stepping into the horror forefront again, in director Dominic Sena’s Season Of The Witch. Production is tapped to begin in November in Austria and Hungary. The story is set in the 14th century, and depicts Cage as a knight who must find a girl who is suspected of being the witch who caused the Black Plague. His ultimate goal is to deliver her to an abbey of monks who are skilled in exorcising demons. The project is written by Bragi Schut Jr.
The real Black Plague has been credited with killing a third of the population of Europe. The plague is actually a deadly pandemic that swept throughout Europe in the 1300s, and was thought to have been caused by a bacterium.
Notably, this is not Cage’s first foray into the world of witchcraft, as he portrayed the character Edward Malus in a film called The Wicker Man.
