"The Outer Limits" 45th Anniversary DVD Set Coming This Fall
August 15, 2008 by Alexandra
October 21 is the 45th Anniversary of the original TV series, The Outer Limits. The series has made its mark in the sci-fi and horror genres, and given us more than a few nightmares over the years. It has perhaps made these genres what they are today.
MGM is celebrating this fall with its DVD release of all 49 episodes, from 1963 to 1965, in one complete box set, available on October 21.
Amazon.com is reporting the set will be available on November 4, 2008. The format of this special set is a 7 discs box set, black and white, unrated.
From its eerie cinematography to its frightening special effects, TV audiences in 1963 were blown away by this amazing series. Of course, the sophistication level was different from what we have these days, however, those types of effects have fueled many imaginations for years.
For many, it is still, and will always be the standard of horror. The series is highly respected, as even horror writer Stephen King has said that it is “the best program of its type to run on network TV”.
The show was revived and updated in 1995 with success, and there have even been some anthologies (such as Aliens Among Us, Death And Beyond) created which include themed episodes.
This is the first time the complete series from the 1960s will be available in a complete set. No word yet on the cover art for this release, however it will no doubt reflect the series with a bit of its 60’s nostalgia. The cover art above is actually a season 1 DVD of the original series.
