Dark Knight’s "Curse" & Movie Curse’s Dismal Shadow
August 8, 2008 by Alexandra
It’s said that people of the Middle East refer to it as the evil eye, some call it a hex, and others just refer to it as a plain old curse.
Much has been speculated lately about the cast of the latest Dark Knight film, in light of some adverse events. From Heath Ledger’s death, to Morgan Freeman’s strange car accident, things could look a little suspicious to those of us who harbor superstitions. Do you believe in curses, and think there is a curse on the film?
A curse is any type of misfortune thought to be brought on or created by a supernatural power. Movie curses (or what we refer to as movie curses) are nothing new. As a matter of fact, there is a list of tragedies that have been attributed to movie curses, which include:
- The Omen – Both in the original movie, and the remake, there was a related death, and one near death, as actor Gregory Peck barely escaped a plane crash. A scriptwriter was struck by lightening. An actor who portrayed a priest had a brother die after drawing three sixes in a card game.
- Poltergeist – Four deaths that all occurred within a six year period.
- The Crow – Actor Brandon Lee’s death, and some very interesting parallels in his life and that of his character still puzzle us.
- Superman – Christopher Reeves, Margo Kidder, Richard Pryor and George Reeves are all thought to be causalities of a movie curse.
Finally, James Dean’s death car, called Little Bastard, apparently caused tragedy to two mechanics (broken legs). Also two men later purchased parts from the car and suffered tragedy. One died instantly, and the other suffered serious injuries.

Though I do believe in movie curses, not this one. There are so many name stars in this movie, it’s just luck of the draw that some of them would end up with a bad twist of fate.
Now if Shia LeBeouf had been in the movie, then yeah, a curse, for sure.
I always like to chalk things up to coincidence, but still…don’t think I’ve have anything to do with James Dean’s car.
