Trailer: "Sweeney Todd" Gets Saturn Award & Goes Blu-Ray
July 1, 2008 by Alexandra
Congratulations to Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street for winning this year’s 34th Saturn Award for The Best horror Film.
If you’ve been planning on seeing this delight, it’s headed to Blu-ray format on October 21st. Read my take on why the film and the soundtrack for this film deserve praise (and possibly a spot in your shopping cart?) after this official trailer, and cut:
This Tim Burton project stars Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter, and they are quite a pair, he the vengeful barber, and she the intrepid baker.
The Plot
If you’ve been wondering what’s with this dark film, it’s a tale about an English barber who murders his customers with a straight razor, and with help, turns them into meat pies. The motivation behind these dreadful murders? The deaths of his wife and daughter.
This is a musical thriller, and Depp and Carter’s singing have been described as uplifting. The film itself is entertaining, although bloody. It seems destined to be a Halloween classic. If you are more of a musical fan as opposed to a regular film, this one is highly recommended.
The Soundtrack
I found the soundtrack to be of particular interests since both stars spent a good bit of time preparing their voices for it. One fan over at Baloney And Balls reviewed the soundtrack and said that Carter’s voice in a few of the songs was to their dislike. I have to admit I enjoyed Depp’s voice more overall. To get a good sample of each, check the duet, called By The Sea.
