"The Happening" Star Wahlberg On Today Show

Mark Wahlberg was on The Today Show talking about his role in M. Night Shyamalan’s movie, The Happening, which debuts on the big screen this Friday, on June 13.

I reported that M. Night has the pesky habit of casting action heroes in unusual roles in his movies, and sure enough, Wahlberg talks about what he did to prepare for his role as a high school science teacher.

You have to respect the fact that he is such a consummate professional that he would take the steps he did in preparation. With Wahlberg portraying tough guys in his last few movies (We Own The Night, Shooter, The Departed), we are used to seeing his tough guy exterior. My favorite character so far has been his role as Dignam in The Departed.

Wahlberg uses the term “terrifying”to describe the beginning of The Happening. He also talks about some of his adventures as a dad, which include a recent injury involving his 4 1/2 year old daughter and a Wii controller. Sounds like Wahlberg could have used a stunt double for that “scene”.
