Screamstress: Could We Be Wrong About Moonlight?
April 22, 2008 by Alexandra
So there I was, my notes neatly stacked and written, my pen discharged of
all its ink, and I felt more than smitten with myself. I had written a nice article while at the beach, entitled, Can Moonlight Go On?. When the day came to spell check, and post it here, something was wrong. I remembered that Jason Dohring and Alex O’Loughlin were to attend the NY Comic Con on Sunday.
Would these guys blow my whole theory out of the water? How long will Moonlight last? Read my theories and compare them to Eric Goldman’s Con spoilers at TV.IGN, and judge for yourself.
My main point was that the show could not possibly go on as is, because actor Sophia Myles (Beth) revealed in a blogcritics mag interview that the relationship would be a tough choice for Beth, meaning she and O’Loughlin’s character, Mick, may never get together because of his vampiric state.
My second point was that Mick the mortal is just not as sexy as Mick the vampire. Come on, we know this to be true, that vampires are sexier, even more so than thoughtful detectives. My conclusion was that the series would simply tease and torture us for weeks on end, with no resolution, until finally some one like TV Guide’s Ausiello would tell a fan that the show is on the bubble.
(Spoiler alert here) Fast forward to Sunday’s rollicking presentation at NY Comic Con. Amid screams from the loyal audience, the Moonlight spoilers reel showed a lot of action, and it seems that although Mick will have a chance of being immortal for a time, he’s going to get his vampire best bud Josef to turn him back! Hmmm. I guess it’s better to be a bloodsucker after all. Even now, I still haven’t decided if I was right. I suspect in the end, I’ll be right, but for all the wrong reasons.

I’m a big fan of Moonlight but this last episode left me kinda cold (though the vampire turning scene was awfully hot!) I’m just not digging the romance between Mick and Beth. I don’t see the chemistry there. Sadly, that’s the main plot of the show. I actually prefer it when the show leans toward the detective side, but apparently I’m the minority in that.
I thought it was a strange episode too. Seeing Beth looking for Mick while he’s passed out on the floor with an apparent concussion, just as she’s about to become dinner was …well…sort of weird!
I love the friendship between Mick and Josef though. I hope they devote an episode just to them!
