The Screamstress - Horror & Paranormal

13 Scariest Horror Movie Moments, #2

by Rhys on November 6th, 2005

#2: Scritch-Scratch in ‘Salem’s Lot

In a rare move, The Screamstress is going to set aside her selfishness (for about three minutes) and pay homage to a scene other people find scary.

I don’t know why this scene never bothered me; I always thought it was cool. However, ask just about any horror aficionado and it’s in their top ten list. Also, this is a special dedication to my wonderful T.S., who names this as his #1 scariest horror scene moment.

So Ben Mears returns to his hometown (never a good idea in horror movies) of ‘Salems Lot to write a book. He takes a liking to a spooky old house (never a good idea in horror movies), sticks his nose into creepy people’s business (never a good idea in horror movies), and vampires ensue.

There’s not much gore but the film is high on atmosphere, as showcased in this #2 scene pick.

As if being a kid weren’t hard enough, poor little Danny is made into a vampire. He can only go out at night when all the other kids are sleeping, so of course he’s bored! He stops by his pal Mark’s house and even does a cool floating trick to impress his buddy, But Mark’s having none of it, leaving Danny to dangle, fangs bared and fingernails scritch-scratching against the glass…

This scene gave hundreds of people gut-wrenching nightmares, which makes it A-OK in my book.

Yes, this one would TOTALLY be my #1 S.H.M.M. I was only about 8 or 9 when I first saw it, and I slept with a Bible under my pillow for months afterward. I still have trouble sleeping in a room with no window shades.

Wow!!!! I bet this made people buy curtains…much like the way I always use clear shower curtains so I don’t have to peek around it when I hear a noise :)
